Residents at Abbeyfield, Guildford

Residents have unfurnished accommodation with ensuite facilities. This means they can bring their own pictures, furniture and most treasured possessions. They have keys to the front door as well as their accommodation and are free to come and go as they please or to invite friends and family to visit at any time.

The house managers or relief staff provide a midday and an evening meal in the dining room and are also concerned with the general well-being of the residents in their care. A hairdresser and mobile library service visit each house regularly. Residents have individual alarms linked to a community alarm centre. An active Friends Society arranges outings and social activities for those who wish to participate.

Charges are generally below those in the commercial sector and, with help from the benefit system where necessary, no-one has so far been precluded by financial circumstances from being with us.

Residents at Abbeyfield, GuildfordProspective residents are interviewed informally and then invited for a short stay in the Guest Room before a final decision is taken. Many residents come from the local area but some have moved from elsewhere to be near relatives. There are no age limits though in practice most of our residents are aged 80 or over. They are encouraged to be independent, to join in local activities and to take part in local activities. Residents are consulted about the running of the house and for those who wish, there are opportunities to play a more active role.
